Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
~ You should leave the bandage on for 2-3 hours. When it’s time to take off the bandage, wash your hands, then wash off the tattooed area with warm water and mild antibacterial soap, like liquid Dial. After you’ve washed it, gently pat it dry with a paper towel.
~ Apply a small amount of the A+D ointment provided or Bacitracin to the tattoo. You only need a little bit; your tattoo should not be greasy, shiny, or oily. If it is, you’ve used too much and should pat off the excess with a paper towel. Use the ointment 2-3 times a day until the tattoo starts to flake.
~ The tattoo flakes because the process of tattooing kills a few layers of skin, so your body needs to shed those dead layers and build up fresh healthy skin on top of the tattooed area. It’s nothing to worry about, but it’s very important to keep yourself from picking at or scratching the healing area, even though it will be itchy! To help control the itch, use an unscented and undyed lotion, like Lubraderm, Dermasil, or Vaseline Intensive Care.
~ Remember that your tattoo is an open wound for the first two or three days, and is susceptible to infection. Therefore you should always wash your hands before touching it, and keep it away from dirty places and pets, and don’t let anyone else touch it.
~ Do not put your new tattoo in hot tubs, swimming pools, lakes, oceans, tanning beds, direct sunlight or lava for at least 2 weeks.
DO NOT SCRATCH OR PICK AT YOUR NEW TATTOO ONCE IT STARTS TO FLAKE!
This will peel off developing skin cells which are holding the ink, and as a result you will get hollow spaces in the tattoo after it heals!
